we have found out that there very many SAFE dog toys. we have 2 mini daschunds. 2v weeks ago our 3 yr old dapple became ill. he was vomitting and would not eat. we took him to our vet and they kept him for 5 days. on the third day they ran a barium and did x-rays. which only showed that his pancreas was inflamed. he stay over the weekend and we got to bring him home. but only to cry because we still could not get him to eat. so after 3 more days at home and watching him slowly dwindling away we took him back to the vet. they kept him again to run another barium only to discover that the first barium had NOT passed through and was still theree. he underwent surgery and they found what seemed to be a small pouch. anyone with experience with chew toys knows that this usually means a squeaker pouch. he still has a way to go to recovery but at least we found the problem, but we still came close to loosing him. And he is still not completely out of the woods yet. he is still in the hospital and recovering, but we still have to get him to eat. they are going to start that today. let hope it stays down. we will probably have to put him on a special diet due the pancreatitis now. just want owners to know just how dangerous these dog toys can be and to PLEASE put hte word out there. repost this as much as you want.

love my weenie dogs!!!!

that sounds horrible and thanks for sharing that. the second the toy is ripped open, it should be tossed. i know hindsight is 20/20 but i said that in the spirit of preventing it from happening to others. i hope your pooch is ok!

Thank you for the heads up! My dachshund doesn't rest till the squeaker is removed. Although she enjoys destroying them, I don't believe I'll bring any more into the house. I hope your little one has a quick recovery.

That's our two!!!!! They will even eat the stuffing out of it if we don't remove it. We haven't found too many toys that don't have a squeaker!!!! So I guess we get creative. Let me know if you find anything or come with any ideas!!!!! Gotta love 'em though.

In January, a pet parent recommended an Invincible, made by Kyjen. They are advertised to keep squeaking when punctured. Ruby is squeaking it as I post this, while normally her toys last for a week at most. The squeakers are about 4" x 3", so I don't think she'd manage to swallow them if she tears the toy apart. You can find them at kyjen.com/products/category/kyjen-brands/plush-puppies/invincibles/ and I've seen them in a few pet stores. She could be a test dog for this company!
