ok so i live in a condo and want a dog. i have a cat to, and have a hamster. There is a park nearby for offleash dogs, and i basically want a medium size dog that will be ok in a smaller space, ideally only needs around 30 min of exercise. If there are any special "designer breeds tht will fit this criteria, say those to. dank u!

30min of excercise a day?
Wow...when you find one like that , let me know.
designer dog?
what they are in laments terms is overpriced mutts with a fancy word, you will find plenty of those in a shelter waiting for a home.
one more thing...does the dog have to match the carpet or the couch?

dobermom (11/6/2009) 30min of excercise a day? Wow...when you find one like that , let me know.I would have to say with a greyhound you could probably get away with only 30 minutes of exercise, they are known as the 40mph couch potatoes. they are a large breed, but do well in apartments.

Maybe a cocker spaniel, terriers are sort of medium sized, shih tzus, schnauzers, boston terriers are really great in small houses and don't need a lot of exercise, maybe a Cairn Terrier. I don't know. These are just a few ideas. Some of them may need lots of exercise but i don't have time to check cause I'm on a tight schedule but i hope i helped you out a bit!

You might want to give the DogChannel.com Dog Breed Selector a whirl. You just answer a couple of questions about your preferences and lifestyle/living situation and it suggest a couple of breeds that would best match your answers.

I was just going to write the same thing.
We have a schnauzer, and I tell you, he keeps up with our Doberman.
Lots of energy and loves his walks.
and to add something, when the breed Greyhound was mentioned...we are talking about a rescue Grey, they do enjoy a nice walk or an occasional run.
I have not yet known a dog, that would just sit and be happy, not being a dog.
Oh, wait, there is one....at Build a Bear.
sorry, my sarcasm, but that is just mind boggling.

sorry, my sarcasm, but that is just mind boggling.definitly talking about a rescue greyhound! when I fostered one awhile ago all Sandy wanted was a nice walk then she would lay in her soft bed for hours. Not that saying that she wouldnt go on any more walks, she just wasnt that active. I do not think you should limit a dog to just 30 minutes a day, but realisticly if the op does walk the dog 30 minutes a day everyday that is probably more than what a lot of people do. You know the ones that just throw the dog out in the back yard and think that is plenty of exercise!

| I have to disagree. I have a 2 greyhounds and they both love to run and we go for 1 to 2 hour walks. 30 minutes would not be enough to keep a greyhound happy i would know. I think you should go to the pound and get a dog around the age of 5-7 thats medium them are always the best.
if this isn't love then you are blind
