| I adopted my dog from a local shelter about a year and a half ago. This whole time everyone was telling me that he looked like a cocker/basset. My groomer told me the other day that he thinks my dog is actually a Sussex. I have done my research on the breed and it sounds exactly like my dog but they are saying Sussex are 15-16" and 40-45lbs. My dog is about 14" and about 22lbs and the vet told me to not let him get any heavier than 25lbs for risk to his back. Anyone have any ideas? Jenn (Cody's Mom)

Do you have pictures that you can post. Sussex Spaniels can look like Cocker/Basset mixes.

Okay, get them on for me and I will let you know what I think. I know LOTS of dog breeds, so I should be able to tell. My sister thought she had a Pomeranian, but she really had a German Spitz!

I can't find the scrapbook??? How old is the dog? From the pic I saw on your profile, she looks slimer than most Sussex Spaniels, and in my opinion needs to put on a little weight. What are you feeding her?

the picture of your dog is from behind, so to identify a specific breed when the dog wears a sweater and it's seen only behind is almost impossible.

In my previous post i placed a link for my dogs website on dogchannel.com. if you go to that link and look at my scrapbook, you will see other pictures of my dog from the front and without a sweater.

She kind of looks like a Sussex Spaniel, just needs to be a little thicker, she could just have been a pet-quality Sussex puppy. Not every puppy is going to match the breed standard perfectly. Sussex’s also tend to have a more “Basset” head look. Droopier eyes, and droopier jaws, but then again, not every single puppy will look like the standard for a perfect Sussex. She is a beautiful dog, and you are lucky to be able to have such a beautiful dog! Thanks for rescuing! If you have any more questions, just let me know!
