I wouldn't force the dog to wear anything. If the dog don't want it on then accept that and move on. My dog wears costumes for holidays or Halloween, most of the time they are on for photos then are taken off. He don't mind wearing it but when it comes to anything like hats or booties, yeah he refuses to and I just take it off, no force.

Don't laugh, but I put clothes on my male APBT. He gets cold in winter! Just give her verbal praise while wearing the clothes!

You can't really make your dog wear clothes. They will either accept them or they won't. My dog wears sweaters or a jacket in deep winter because he freezes his butt off if I don't put something on him. He will not wear boots. He would rather his paws freeze. I don't force the issue. If your dog doesn't like clothes, you shouldn't force them on. Poms are equipped enough to deal with the cold for short times.

Hi.  Yeah, Terry's right.  I can't help but think a dog feels kind of silly with clothes on.  If you want to dress something, get a doll.  I would however, put a jacket on a small dog who is going out in the cold.  My chi hates cold and wet.  He'll hold it all day before he goes out in the rain voluntarily.  Also, when I travel with him, I put a sweater on him because it seems to ease his anxiety somewhat by being warm, as airports can be chilly for him.  But dressing up for my vanity - nah!!

I was just wondring how to do it because I have a pom and she has never worn clothes before. Thanks fo answering!

I wanted to dress my Cairn up for Halloween and he's never worn clothes before so I started getting him used to it weeks before.

Take your time and always make it a pleasant experience. Introduce your dog to the clothes give him/her plenty of praise and treat her. What you're trying to do is create an association clothes=good things.

Some dogs take to clothes right away without any prompting. You just never want to make it a negative experience or force them on her. Once they think clothes are bad, it'll be twice as hard to ever get her used to wearing them.
