I like to give Midnight a lot of variety. Every time I go through a five pound bag of food (which takes about a month and a half), I will switch to a different brand or formula. Sometimes, I will give her a meal of raw chicken or beef. She never has any trouble with this. Is there any benefit to feeding a dog this way?

If when you switch food... you continue to use a food with the same nutritional value / think price, in most cases. No, there isn't any benifits. Most people don't suggest changing food often... because it can cause stomach upsets... but, if your dog can handle it, more power to you.

As in rotating? A rotation diet is mostly done for allergy benefits. I started a rotation diet because I have a theory that variety provides better nutrition. I mean, variety is one of the most important thing in a homeprepared diet, why not in commercial food? I've gotten better results on a homeprepared diet than a commercial one, and maybe that's the reason. I do not mean that a rotation diet of even the best kibbles could ever meet or beat raw/homecooked for dogs in general. While it could be argued that dog food is balanced in every meal, I think that dog food only provides the nutrition needed to keep a dog alive, not to help it thrive. The meat-based brands are best, but even they can't top a well-balanced homeprepared diet. Even the best of the best commercial pet foods contain unnecessary ingredients, and cooked food loses some of it's nutrience in the cooking process.
My dogs also get lots of meaty scraps.
ETA:
Also, when switching foods, it's recommended that you switch gradually, put a bit of the new brand/formula in with the old, and over the course of a week, put more in. I don't do this my GSD, though, she seems to have a stomach of steel. It may be a "know thy dog" thing.

| I rotate her food because I don't think a dog should have to the same thing it's whole life. I buy the best possible brands (one is 16 dollars for a five pound bag) that I can find. Midnight loves veggies, so I add a lot of those to her diet. She used to eat a raw diet, but I can no longer afford it. I always switch the food over a one week period, and she does fine with it.
