I just adopted a Chihuaha Mix and I have had her for 3 weeks. I take her to her spot to do potty and no matter how long I am out there for and how many times I say "go potty" or "hurry up". She will wait until we go back in the house to relieve herself. I can not stay outside for hours at end to wait for her to relieve herself and that is even if she does. Any other suggestions?

Ok everytime you take her out always bring a dog treat and if she does her bussness then say good dog and give her the treat keep doing that until she has gotten the point hope I helped I have a puppy who is 5 months old and when I first got him he was not even potty trained yet. she will learn its just take's time hang in there.\

How old is she and do you crate her?

Take her out to potty give her 15 minutes if she doesnt go take her in and crate her. Take her out again in 15 minutes. Repete untill she goes outside and give her treats and lots of praise!

ok the first step is to never let her out of your sight, if you are put her in her crate.  When you see her go in the house clap your hands and IMMIDEANTLY take her outside.  Tell her to "go potty" (or whichever word you want to use).  When she does Go outside praise her right after she does her business.  She should get the hang of it soon enough

She is 2, I do crate her, but I will try that method. This is the first I heard of doing this, but makes sense. Thanks for the advice.

I had a stubborn doberman that I was raisning to be a guide dog and we had to crate her after she came in because she would pee outside then come in and pee again. So I figure it would work for a dog not going outside but going in the house.

I also want to add, keep calm.
If the dog senses your are anxious , getting frustrated, you will have the opposite results.
Some children still poop their pants at 3 years old, just think about that.
It takes work.

Hang in there.
