| The thing with animal abuse is that so many people fail to report it. We don't make an effort to do the right thing because it's none of our business. I make it my business to try to do something about any neglect or abuse I come in contact with - human or animal. I have to walk my dog in an area where there are few of them because there are no leash laws where I live (small island - Caribbean), and I come in contact with semi-feral dogs all the time. I being dog bones with me when I walk. I can't walk my dog just anywhere (he's a chihuahua), because of the numbers of dogs loose all over. We're over-run with them. All the animal shelters are maxed out, and are only run with donations here. So yeah - I think it's too bad we are desensitized by animal abuse - as well aas "People" abuse.
