We are currently feeding our 5 month old puppy Nutro Natural puppy formula - but we are thinking about switching. Does anyone have any opinions on Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul - puppy formula? I have been doing some research and Chicken Soup gets a 5 star rating from Dog Food Analysis but wanted to see if you guys had any opinions. Thanks!

why do you want to switch him?
Does he have problems?
Ours are on Nutro, and it is doing them good, so why put there system thru it, just because we humans think THE DOG needs it?

Dobermom,

Sometimes it is actually BETTER to switch a dogs food, esspecially with Nutro, the quality has decreased HORRIBLY!!! My food recommendation is Blue Buff, Taste of the Wild, or Orijen. The only fallback to Orijen is the price...I personally vary my dog's food and they are on a strictly homemade diet.

The main reason for considering the switch is our pup doesn't seem to like Nutro much and I want to make sure she is eating enough. I have heard good things about Chicken Soup - Puppy formula and like their ingredient list so I think we are going to give it a go.

My dog was on Nutro Ultra Puppy. It is a decent enough food, but I wanted Luca to be on a better quality food with more protein as opposed to rice. I was getting Nutro for free at my part time job, but they quit doing it and Nutro was the same price as Orijen, which is a much better food in my opinion. I have him on Orijen Puppy and will switch to either the red meat or fish adult version when he gets a little older.

I love Chicken Soup!
I've switched my dogs foods a lot lately...it all started last year...from Lassie Natural Way, to "Healthy Mix" (which should be "not-so-healthy mix" if you ask me), to Iams, to Diamond Naturals. This summer, when I saw an 18 lb bag of Chicken Soup for just $25, and I took a look at the ingredients--which has several meat sources as opposed to one--I just had to get it. I've always switched my GSD cold turkey, because she's always been able to handle it, but switching quickly doesn't work well with all dogs.

Reasons to switch? In my view, if you can afford a nutritionally superior food for an affordable price, why not?

We have started transitioning our pup onto Chicken Soup and she really seems to enjoy it. I am glad we made the switch and thanks for all of the help. Also, did anyone ever use Puppy formula and if so for how long?

Chicken Soup is a good food it is made by Diamond Foods.  It is their lower priced food. As far as puppy food. it matters on the type of dog you have.  Small dogs can stay on puppy food for a year...bigger breeds six to 7 months. Remember what is good for your dog might be what is good for the next even if they are the same breed...it matters the life style. My dog is at work with me from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  So he is on a high energy dog food...28% and in the winter 30% protein. With raw meat added.

Ok so now you have me thinking about Puppy formula. Our dog is about 30 lbs and almost 7 months old. Should we think about switching her from Chicken Soup Puppy to Chicken Soup Adult soon or do you think we can wait for till she hits the one year mark?

I have seen it in our catalogs at work but have never tried it. It looks like a good quality food.
