| Okay, I have a male brittany pup, pics can be found in the puppy forum under new puppy pics, and I am thinking about studding him out when he's older. He's already AKC registered and there aren't many people in Iowa or Missouri that stud out their dogs much. I know it's important to have him current on all his shots and make sure the female is too, but is there anything else I need to know? Like how much should I charge? If he's OFA certified, should I charge more? What should I make sure about the female, besides shots? Is studding him out even a good idea? I appreciate the help, thank you.
- Achilles weak spot was his heel.
- Mine is Tucker Patroklos Delano.

| first I would take a good look at your dog. Is he a good representitive of his breed? Do you show him, whether its conformation, field, obedience or agility. Is he stable temperament wise? He should be tested for at least hip dysplaysia, thyroid, and eyes cerf'd. both male and female should be tested and free from brucellosis. If it was me I would want the same thing from the female. As for what to charge it depends ch or working titles, Obviously those will be worth more as a stud than just a pet. The breeder I got Dusty from charges $500, or if she wants a puppy, she will take pick of the litter.

Here's an article about studding a dog:

And a page with articles on responsible breeding:

Heya! First of all read the breed standard and make sure your dog doesn't have any major conformation faults. Once he is old enough (about a year old) get his OFA testing done and only if he passes them can you breed him. About charges, it really depends on your dog, if you show him and he gets his championship the stud service is more. Around $200-4000 depending on the dog. If you have a Westminster Champion then you could offer stud services of $4000, but if you have a OFA certified unshown pup stud services are as low as $200.

just wanted to point out that you can get the hips prelimed at 1 year but they have to be 2 to be ofa certified. pennhip can be done at any age.

Speaking of PennHip, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that doing both PennHip and OFA is best--that way you get two different opinions. If the results are the same for both, then most likely the evaluation of the hips was right.

I love PennHIP! It can be done once they are a year old, no sooner though.
