I don't know much about how AKC registration and selling puppies works, so I have decided to try get some input from other people about a situation that I am in.
I have been looking to buy a puppy recently, and have fallin in love with the Australian Shepherd breed. I looked online and through classifieds, and I came across an add that said there were 2 puppies left out of a litter and they are selling for $100 without registration papers, but $400 with the papers. The pups are 9 weeks old. I have seen pictures of the supposed pups and the rest of the litter. The mother and father are pictured on the website as well. The rest of the pups in the litter were apparently sold with papers at the higher value. Now like I said, I don't know anything about breeding or registering puppies; I am just trying to understand if this is possible. I didn't know the breeder had a choice to register some of the pups and not the others. The breeder also informed me that the puppy will be UTD on shots as well as come with a health guarantee allowing me to take the puppy to my vet within 48 hours and have her checked out. If it is a life or death situation, then I will be able to either exchange the pup or get my money back. I don't see how the breeder can profit from $100 if they have gotten the puppy wormed, UTD, and also the tail was cut off by her vet as well. I would be going pick up the pup instead of having it mailed, so I am not worried about that scam. I could very well be wondering these questions for nothing because, like I said, I don't know anything about breeding. I just wanted to get some advice from other breeders or people who were maybe in this situation.

ok, there is my problem.
Out of the classifieds.
Not reptuble breeders.
otherwise, you would not have to go thru this monopoly of 100 , 400 $?
No reptuble breeder charges that little for their pups.
what state are you in?
Go on the AKC Website, and there look for good breeders.
Our Dogs are not spoiled,we're just well trained

I have to disagree with dobermom somewhat.
while most breeders do not advertise in classified ads, some do and they screen each potential buyer. although I will say that is not the norm.
as for the papers, the breeder has already registered the litter with AKC she is just not going to give you the individual puppy paper.
for the price, their are many reasons breeders will sell pups at a reduced price. I dont know who this breeder is or their reasoning, but I will say my breeder/mentor sold my sheltie Dusty's littermate for $50.00 and I consider her a reputable breeder! she tests for all genetic problems she breeds not only for the conformation ring but also herding and obedience trials. She truely cares more for the dogs than she does making a profit. At anytime no matter what the reason is she will take the dog back.
with that being said before I bought this puppy I would want to know if the parents have been checked for genetic health problems. Do they breed for the show ring or for herding? what kind of health guarantee do they have besides the 48 hour one? I would like to see at least a 2 year health guarantee, 5 year is even better. I would also like to see a spay/nueture contract on any pup that isn't show/working quality.
oh and tail docking is normal in Aussies since breeding 2 naturally tailless dogs together can cause spinal problems.
If you go to this breeder and check them out and like what you see then go ahead and buy the puppy. btw when I say you like what you see I am not talking about how cute the puppy is, all puppies are cute! I mean is the place clean is the mom present what is her temperament like? If she is shy, skittish, or aggressive I would not get the puppy as some of this can be passed on to the pups. Papers are not important unless you want to breed or compete in dog events.
I hope you have done lots of research on aussies. they are an active breed that requires not only physical but mental exercise as well. they love to herd and need a job!!

We had an aussie and around an acre to run. she was three and still chewed socks, underwear, internet routers, fish chemicals... until we gave her a job. even with her job she still herded my 110 lb lab/dane. good times

If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them. ~Phil Pastoret

| If you are wanting a dog to show and compete with...from what I have found they are about $1500 Ask any of the breeders here...they won't sell a really good dog or even just AKC for that unless it's pet quality...but with some of the breeders I have talked to about even pet quality it's still up there...this newspaper thing is Shady. Seriously if you want a good dog think about it more and look through better resources.
