Hey, I am fairly new to DC. But i have 2 dogs that have allergies. And right now we are trying Natural Balance Duck and Potato Allergy Formula. And i was just curious if anyone on here has a dog with food allergies, that could tell me what worked for them. And what kind of food you feed.

My dog had itchy patches that have sinced cleared up completely after feeding Addiction dog food (we also found out he had a chicken allergy). I've had good experiences with their foods and have noticed a real difference in my dog's health. One thing, Addiction uses very novel meats like kangeroo, brushtail, salmon, which is great for dogs who are allergic to more commonly-found meats, so that might be useful for you. If you'd like to read up more its here:

When you look at food, look at the list of items in the food. Make sure that "corn" is not at the top but meat is. Corn is most likely the cause of your dogs allergies.

I would think the first thing would be to identify the specific food items or groups the dog has problems with. It isn't always the common items.

Yeah, thats what i want to do is figure out what exactly they are allergic to.  ANd so we have to try this food for 12 weeks i read and according to my vet. And then we can introduce one thing at a time to see what brings itchy skin back. I just really hope this food works. Because they are really really really itchy. It drives them and me crazy. One has bad ears along with it. ANd the other licks until he causes sores on his toes. I work at a veterinary clinic, and they have put them on ears meds and anti biotics before , which clears things up a little but i don't want to do antibiotics anymore because then as soon as they finish all the symptoms come back again. So i would love to find out exactly what is causing their problems. I just wonder if maybe it isn;t food at all. What if its dust allergens, or the carpet or anything really. Hopefully the food fixes it.

ARe you 100% sure it is food allergies?  Has this been confirmed by your vet?  You have two different dogs exhibiting 2 different sets of behavior possibly related to discomfort... But depending on other symptoms, it could be numerous other things, one may have food allergies and the other may be reacting to a flea treatment or a shampoo...

If allergies have not been confirmed, what other symptoms / indications is each dog exhibiting?

Its not really good to keep switching foor >.< Believe me! I had to learn the hard way, and it wasn't pretty, cleaning up dog messes 3 times a day, having to cook my dogs own meal before switching him back to his food.

I am just gonna randomly throw this idea out here but where does your dog sleep at night? In a cage, near metal? Your dog could be allergic to metal in the cage. We suggested that idea to our vet about my dogs allergies and he said that it was very possible that it could the the cause.

The dogs may be showing different signs, but they are all related to food allergies.  And it certainly is not shampoo, or flea meds.  THey have medicated baths, which HELP. ANd they only have frontline, which they only get in the summer, and that has never made it worse. AND they do NOT have fleas either.

And switching food is NOT bothering them. We don't swith it every day. ANd they have never had diarhea from switching. Dogs that are used to having a varied diet will not have this problem usually. They do not sleep in a cage. They do sleep on beds on the floor next to my bed. But seriously dogs are exposed to sooo many different things each day. It is nearly impossible to eliminate most of them. Carpet, the couch, blankets, hard floor, outside, the dirt, the grass. Food is the easiest thing to rule out. SO thats what we are trying.

I would LIKE to hear from Anyone who had success with any actual food allergies!!!

I  work   at a veterinary clinic where i have worked for 10 years. I have seen and experienced many many things with dogs with allergies.  But we have tried different supplements and nothing has made it worse , but nothing has made it better yet.

I've struggled with food allergies for several years with one of my dogs. Though I have yet to pinpoint the allergen, we have finally found a solution- The Missing Link. After introducing it to our dogs, we have not had any type of flare up for the last several months *knocks on wood* It contains Omega -6 amd Omega-3 and fatty acids which can improve the condition of a dog's skin and coat.

Good luck to you!
