I lost my Yorkie Poo of 16 years. They say that it is easier if you get a puppy/dog before your older dog passes away I don't know? My new puppy has some large shoes to fill. Don't get me wrong I love my new puppy but wish I still had Tabitha.  Two very different dogs.  Tabitha was a yorkie poo and Murphy is a Goldendoodle.

Sorry to hear you lost Tabitha. It hurts. Another dog is not the same, but it sure does help.

So sorry for your loss. Tabitha looks like she was a sweetie. I know how you feel though. Cinnamon's our first dog, but I've lost 2 kitties over the years, and though I love Shadow, the one I have now, I still miss the other two and wish they were still here.

Wow I'm so sorry!

I think it's easier if you happen to have another dog already, because they distract you... but it really isn't fair to a pup. You are distracted as well, and young dogs need your full attention and focus.... you are a huge part of what the new little one will become.

I know how you feel though... no dog will ever fill Caber's shoes... So you buy new shoes... That's what I did for Harley. Mourn for a while, and when you are ready, create a new set of shoes that the new dog can grow into. As he develops you'll learn to value him just as much, but for different things.
