Boxers are fast learners when they are puppies. My brother has a 2 year old boxer now, he had it since it was a puppy and his dog knew almost all the basic commands within 6 months. At 6 months it was better behaved then my dog! lol So with that, it is just that breed thing.

I dont think andrew is lazy at all !! presley stayed longer than he did! just because he isnt all hyper and ball crazy doesnt make him lazy.
also presley is 18 months which is the same age as my sheltie, I dont see why people keep saying he is doing good for his age, yes he is the youngest dog there, but honestly at 1 1/2 years old he should be that well trained. heck my 10 month old dobe is almost trained that good he knows all basic commands but due to his age he wouldnt stay more than 5 minutes and I dont expect him to.

Thats what i'm saying though i don't know if i would say he is lazy but as you said i only ever see Andrew sit and stay and yes he did do good going up the wooden plank but as laurie said he would climb mouintains to get to her so he went up. I am sure if laurie comanded Adrew to go up and she was at the bottom he wouldn't though presley would have if Travis told him to go up and Travis stayed at the bottom. And even as you said Andrew is a therepy dog and show dog but really don't dogs only have to sit stay still and behave? or at least for the most part. And once again i don't want anybody think i think he is a badly trained dog or i don't like him because i do but as i said every dog left deserves so win yet some more then others

In my honest opinion, these challenges are not what make a "greatest American dog" at all. If you want a greatest American dog, you have to have a dog that is older and will do anything for you, a dog that saved your life. A dog that is friendly around others and that is healthy and knows basic commands and then some. It isn't about what dog can dance, paint, let an elephant charge at them. I think that Bill and Star showed everything that makes the greatest American dog. Star saved Bills wife when she was having a diabetic attack, the dog is healthy, gentle and above all knows the basic commands. I know that Star is a winner in all of our hearts and if America had to choose instead of the judges, he would win above all. I haven't seen any other dog save a life. That right there, is a true heroic dog.

Completely agreed DogsRme and very well said. A great dog is their for you, is loyal, will love you even if you make mistakes, and does not judge you as people do I don't even think that dogs need to be trained more then the basics(the basics like sit, stay, come, make life less frustrating and safer for you, your dog, and others) as long as they behave and show you that they care and are loyal ect. the list goes on and on of what makes a greatest american dog. Didn't anyone read Marley and Me sure Marley isn't the best well behaved dog but he was still a great dog

This time it is my turn to say very well said. I could not agree more with you on this. I just want to add that some of these challenges were just utterly ridiculous and dangerous. As I said before, it was not that long ago, when a TRAINED elephant got loose and charged and injured several people and killed one in a city out in the midwest. I think that was one of the dumbest challenges and I truly hope if they do this next year, they get it right.
I agree that Star and Bill were the perfect example of the Greatest American Dog.
As for Presley and Travis?? Remember Travis said that he is learning as he goes and has picked up enormous tips on training Presley. So I dont think Presley had a whole lot of training before he got there and has done very well since he got there.
Now as for Laura and Andrew??? I have to say that I am not a small dog person at all. However, I think that Laura's training techniques are much better than JD's. I think he is cocky and arrogant and I think he almost bullies the dog when he gives commands. Laura is in it to win it and there is nothing wrong with that since it is a competition. That being said, I want Travis and Presley to win just because I think they exemplify what the greatest American dog really is. I would not be disappointed if Laura won. I have to say if I had to take Brinkley to a trainer, I would certainly consider Laura if she was closer.. I like her technique very much. I am just not a small dog person. I have that Golden Retriever that someone mentioned above. I would put her up against any dog there right now and she would win hands down. She is a certified therapy dog, she is a university softball team mascot, and she does a lot and goes everywhere with me for the most part. The bottom line is that we all love our dogs and we all have our favorite breeds. I truly believe that Laura and Andrew are going to win even though I hope it is Travis and Presley. I love Galaxy very much but she has an owner that I just do not care for at all. He is just too cocky for my liking. This should be a very interesting finale this week and I am anxious to see how it turns out. If it is Laura or Travis I wont be disappointed. I think they both have done a great job. As for Andrew being too attached to Laura??? We only can go by what we see on the show and if that was all I had to base it on then I would say yes. BUT, isnt that what loyalty is. He wants to know where is owner is. So who is to say. I just hope they come up with a better format for next year.
