I'm sorry if i don't know as much as you do when it comes to dogs shows ect. And i'm sorry i should of took more time and thought about what show dogs do go through but i was kinda in a rush anyway you bring up good points and as i said they are both pretty close when it comes to training but in different ways Could you tell me where you got the info on Andrew i would like to know more. The show should also do things to show things that dogs like andrew can do show wise. Anyway presley is not really better trained but in the long run at his age is on his way to be at andrews age i'm sorry again because what I typed wasn't exactley what i meant. I really don't know who i want to win at this point Travis and Presley but then i'm not sure it's such a hard decision after Bill and Star left

This brings up another question I have...
At the beginning of the show, I thought I understood that, because everyone came into the competition at different levels, the measuring stick would be how much a team progressed in learning to work together. If that is the case, do judges have a base line to use for each dog? My impression is that they do not. If they don't, this is an innately unfair competition; and the judges, again, are put in a no-win situation.
Did I understand the premise of the show correctly? If I do, how can judges possibly make that kind of assessment? It's easy to see that Presley and Travis have come the farthest—which is why I don't understand them being rated so poorly recently. But, JD, as his profession requires, has obviously come to the competition with a complete bag of tricks—as have the other highly-trained teams. How did judges address these differences—or was that not in the equation?

IlovmydogMax, firstly, I'm not really sure why you are so focused on comparing Presley and Andrew specifically. IMO it's apples and oranges. Both dogs are so incredibly different and bring entirely different things to the table. But in no way, shape or form is Presley "better trained." If they are judging the relationship between the human and the dog, then I would say that Bill and Star and JD and Galaxy should have had it in the bag because a relationship with a 7 and 9 year old dog would naturally be deeper than one with a puppy you've barely had for over a year! Especially one who you just started training during the filming of a TV show! Travis admitted this last episode that up until the show he was "the guy in the dog park with a dog" who everyone was yelling at. How could his relationship that he just started building within the 10 weeks the show was filmed be compared to those who have built their relationships with their dogs for years and years?
You can read all about Andrew on his page at dogster.com. All the contestants have pages there. If you go to the Greatest American Dog fan club there are links to all their pages. There are also links to his myspace page.
This other poster brings up a good point too. If the judging criteria is to be how far each dog progresses, then that would definitely put Travis and Presley at an advantage. Naturally a dog that is brand new to training would show the most growth as opposed to a dog that is already well trained. That's a no brainer. If that is the criteria then it seems to me they should not have allowed dogs that are already extensively trained like Andrew, Star, Leroy and JD. They should have only allowed brand new or young dogs and puppies like Presley and brand new owners.

If you read my last post I didn't reallt compare them Said they were both well trained but in different ways and as i said i didn't know about andrew being a therapy dog and show dog because honestly i didn't look into. Thank you for telling me where to get the info. And i know i problaley shouldn't of compared Presley and Andrew becuase they are different i was just saying at thi point presley has really proved himself to be derserving and though Andrew is he hasn't really done as well in some contests I know they both have great potentiel and at this point who wins it could go any way and i wouldn't mind who won even if it is Andrew because i love the little dog. Also as i said what i typed before wasn't exactley what i meant and i'm sorry i didn't explain it.

I waited a while before I posted because I had such mixed emotions about the competition and Bill and Star being voted off.
After waiting, I hated to see Bill and Star go but it was a fair call for this week. However, as a few posters said, the judges told him to ease up on Star and he does and then he is eliminated.
I have a hard time with the latest challenege regarding courate.
These challenges are not what makes a great American dog and I really hope they get it right next year.
It was not that long ago, when a trained elephant, got loose in a city and injured several people, so the challenge with the elephant was totally unsafe and just ridiculous..
Harnessing up these dogs and asking them to do what they did to get to their owners is just utterly ridiculous. Even though JD is not one of my favorite people, I hated to see Galaxy injured and it may force him out of the competition.
The judges, producers, writers and creators of the show, need to do it better next year. This past week really upset me with these challenges. These are not the kind of challenges that should even be asked of a dog. There are many things that determine courage and what these dogs had to endure was not courage at all. It was stupidity on the part of whoever came up with this plan.
Please take a good look at some of the other posters ideas for next year's show. Just totally absurd that you would have a charging elephant. The other stuff is icing on the cake.
I am getting more and more disappointed with this show each week. Hopefully it will improve. Good luck with that.

I feel that as we get closer to the end it's going to become harder for the judges to say good-bye to the contestants. I personally love all the owners and dogs. It's going to be sad to see one by one of the dogs being voted off but, there can be only one Greatest Dog.
