I got Lakota when I was in th 7th grade, she is my best friend and the only family member I miss when Im not home. everytime my mom got angry at my brother and I she would threaten to give Lakota away, but she never did. I moved out of the house to go to college three years ago and I would come over once a week to play with Lakota and walk her, cus my mom never did. I took her to the vet every month and to the groomers during the summer to get her annual shave. This past month my brother and I got my dad a plane ticket to ny for his birthday and my mom got angry cus we didnt do the same for her. (my parents should be divorced but wont out of spit of each other) After a heated discussion over the phone about how she cant get what ever she wants I get another call from her the next day..she tells me she gave Lakota away. I raced home to see if it was true and it is, I asked her who she gave Lakota to, but she wont tell me. Iv called her work 6 times tonight to try and get her to tell me..but nothing. what should I do? this is completely unfair! How do I get Lakota back? Please help me?

Are you the legal owner of Lakota? Is she registered with your local animal services division? Maybe a microchip registered to you?

You could definatally contact your local animal services about it or AVID if she is microchipped. It might help you find her.

I am so sorry for you!!!  I would definitely check the local dog shelters.   Its not easy to find a person to take a dog so quickly, so my guess is she went to a shelter.  Or, I hate to say it, but would she have taken the dog to another town and dumped it?  I'd call the animal control officers for your town and surrounding towns, just in case.  Do you have a photo you can distribute?

That is horrible!!! How could anyone do that? Sounds like you should go to the police about this. You are the owner of Lakota correct? Your mom isn't a co-owner or helped you buy it correct? If so, there might not be a way if she bought it and paid for all the services while you were still in high. She would have the right to do as she wanted as unfair as it may seem.

That is horrible. I cant believe a parent would be so heartless. I hope you get your dog back soon. That is really sad, your mom cares more about a stupid little present over her daughters feelings. *shakes head*

Wow, what a spiteful thing to do!!! If you've paid the bills and your dog was in YOUR name at the vet, you may have a legal leg to stand on. Wow. If it was me, I don't think I'd have a mother anymore.

Unfortunately, if you're under 18 years of age...GAME OVER. Not much you can do. I'm so very sorry for your loss! It's very sad that a parent would do something like that. I'm so very, very sorry. I wish I knew what to tell you.

Call any local shelter. You could even brainstorm to remember if your mother discussed anything about any shelter. If your names are on the papers, it is illegal to give it away without your consent. Same thing has happened to my Irish Setter(AKC Show Dog). If your mother has any close friends, you might want to ask them if she told them where she was going. And make "Missing Dog" flyers. This will catch the people owning yuor dog and give you a call. If not someone might recognize it and then give you a call. Try it, Good Luck!
