How old is your dog? Dogs remember things and the younger the dog is, the easier it will be to break this fear then an older dog. First thing that comes to mind when a guy comes over to your house is probably, "how will my dog react?" do you then feel a little worried? If that is the case then your dog can sense that which tends to make the dog a little weary. If you want to break this habit you have to show your dog that the guy isn't mean. Try different sessions with the guy petting the dog. If the dog backs away, don't force him to visit with the fella. He will come around after he senses that the guy won't harm him. This will take a lot of patience and time. One last question, does your dog bite or growl at the guy? Does your dog try to protect you?

I would not throw the dog into a situation that can overwhelm him.
Take it slow, take him outside as much as possible around people.
And whatever you do, stay calm.
A dog feeds of your insecurity, and will react to it.
As long as you stay calm around a crowd where there are men, so will the dog.
And do not force the dog to accept being touched by any, it will further his insecurity .
Just take it slow.
Our Dogs are not spoiled,we're just well trained

| One idea may be to start with a male friend or family member who can work with you and your dog on a regular basis to start off. I know many dogs react well to treats - so maybe have him keep a supply of treats on hand to reward positive steps. As long as he doesn't force the dog to approach him or accidentally corner him, with your patience and postive attitude, trust should eventually start to be built. I agree with other comments that if you are nervous about your dog's reaction to a man, he will feed off that fear. Don't give up, be patient, and good luck!!
