| I will be starting my full-time job in a year, after I graduate. I have been looking into getting a pup, as I'll be living by myself in the city for the first time and I need a companion! I have a soft spot in my heart for boxers, but I've heard yes and no with them for apartment living. My biggest problem is that since I am living alone and working a job where I potentially could work 80-100 work weeks during the busy season, I won't always be home at the most ideal times. I am all for exercise outside though, so when I am home, I could take the dog for quality outdoor time. Any suggestions? Could I even get a dog under these conditions?

I would say no to getting a dog at this time. that is a lot of time not being home for a pack animal. a boxer needs exercise and would probably go nuts in an apartment alone for that many hours. I would suggest a cat instead, perhaps a maine coon cat they are large and dog like, some even like to fetch!

I agree, I don't think getting a dog at this time would be the right move for you. Working 80-100 hours is a huge amount of time away from home. Then factor in the things you need to when home - cleaning, cooking, errands, etc. I know many people utilize doggie daycare facilities, but working so many hours would probably prevent you from being able to use one because you wouldn't be able to meet the drop off/pick up times. I think you should wait until your work schedule lightens up, just to be fair to you and the dog. Maybe volunteer at a local shelter on weekends or whenever you have the time - that would allow you to walk dogs and play with them without the full-time responsibility needed as well as help out the shelter!

80-100 hours of work?
thats crazy.
Why would you want to put a dog thru this?
A cat would be better.
Our Dogs are not spoiled,we're just well trained
