I show our Corsos when I get time to travel, and do Schutzhund. We have a champion male, Bogie, and for that he is known nationwide and one of the top five Cane Corsos worldwide...thats the good thing about showing rare breeds, its a smaller world.

| HI. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that I plan to show in Rally this summer. He has done the beginner classes for Rally, obedience, and agility (easy for him, hard for me) and we like Rally the best so we will start there. Does anyone here have a Cavalier they have shown? When I bought him the parting words from the breeder were "Don't ever let a Cavalier outside off leash. They will chase anything from leaves to butterflies with pure abandon." Now I am afraid to put him in the show ring if the show is outside. And it is true Cavaliers have a pure joy to chase everything that crosses their path - they just want to live life to its fullest and experience everything. This trait does make mom a bit nervous though.

I'd like to get my Papillon mix into competitive Agility, but for now I'll have to be content with "back-yard" Agility on my beginner's Agility kit. No money to spare for Agility lessons. =/

Cavimom (3/16/2009) HI. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that I plan to show in Rally this summer. Does anyone here have a Cavalier they have shown? When I bought him the parting words from the breeder were "Don't ever let a Cavalier outside off leash. They will chase anything from leaves to butterflies with pure abandon." Now I am afraid to put him in the show ring if the show is outside. I do not have a Cavalier. I have known Many (a friend breeds Cavs) and had some in my training classes. They are not dogs who will chase anything IMO. In fact they have a moderate play/prey drive, fairly high pack drive, and are in the middle range of resposiveness to commands. Meaning they will look, maybe chase, but want to be with people/pack, and will respond to commands at a moderate rate (not low or high). So they are fairly easy to train if not as sharp/quickly as some breeds. I wouldn't allow one outside off leash, unless it was well conditioned to respond to Down and come. (the two off leash emergency commands) They aren't going to rush off to chase, but may ignore you slightly when you call them. You should Not be afraid to go to an outside show! First off, as your first level of Rally will be on leash. Even if off leash chances are if your dog wasn't trained well enough the most he/she would do would be to wander over to people/dogs or wander around the ring. It's very unlikely that he'd Run AWAY and no one could catch him. They are sociable little dogs. Good luck in Rally!
