My dog has conjestive heart failure and his health is failing fast. He is under medication from my vet, however he is exibiting different behavior. He will not look at me nor come to me. He spends his day outside at the farthest reaches of the yard, and just sits there. I do not understand dog behavior and I hope someone has gone through this their pet. This is so sad for me to watch!! Steve
My dog has congestive heart failure. He has gone down hill extremely fast. My vet has given me two heart medications to help get the fluid off the heart. At home he will not come to me. He does not look at me and prefers to stay outside during the night. Is this common behavior of a dog that is dying. This behavior is tearing me apart!! Steve

I am very sorry to hear about what you are going through. I really can't tell you if this is the behavior that you think it is. I will say that you know your friend the best and if he appears to have lost the joy in his life he probably has. In my experience you will know when it is time to let your friend go. It is SO hard to admit that it's time, but one day you will look into his sweet eyes, and you will all but hear him ask for release. You will know. Just open your heart to the pain, and look past what you WANT to see, he will tell you. We are here for you if you need to talk. I wish you the best. Remember the best times with your boy, and don't turn away from him when he needs you most.

| Ohh, I remember back when one of my favorites at the Humane Society was put down because of congestive heart failure...we were willing to foster him if they didn't put him to sleep, but they did. RIP Gus, I love you always. <33 I know this is a hard time for you, but I say listen to wolfgrrl's advice. Wise words.

Hi,im very sorry to hear about your dog. In November 2007,my dog Buddy,9 years old,passed cause of a broken back.He could not walk and could barely stand by himself.It hurt my family to see him in such pain,we had to put him to sleep.I had him since i was 3,and he was such a sweet boy.So,I understand how you feel because i feel the same way. Steve,
Just read your reply. This was some time ago, and I imagine your dog is no longer with you. I am going through the same thing right now with my Freckles. She also has congestive heard failure and the last few days she has been refusing to eat. She looks very sad and often turns her head away from me. She sleeps all day and barely can I get a wiggle from her tail. I know she is going to leave me soon....it is extremely hard to deal with. She is 13 yrs old and we lost her mom Smudge in August to the same disease...she was almost 17 yrs. I hope you are doing ok.
