Neither the breeder nor our vet advised us against bringing the puppy out for running. Since you are so adament, I will check again. I should say that I do not run him at full tilt! I often let him set the pace, and he just loves to run. Most of the bike rides are more at a jogging pace though.

RE: Why does my dog chew?

As Schnauzer OWner myself, and a Doberman owner, you do not under any circumstance run a dog under the age of 18-24 month.
A puppy should never ever run 5 miles next to a bike?
Are you insane?
You want him to have ED and HD at an early age?
Schnauzer are a high energy breed, but never ever have I ran ours for that long.
Mind stimulating games are great .
You need to reconsider about what you are doing to the poor guy.
RE: Why does my dog chew?

I know my dogs start chewing when they do not get enough exercise. If I go too many days without taking them on a good run, they start up with chewing to get out their pent-up energy. And although they have plenty of chew toys, the puppy always finds something less appropriate to chew (hats, shoes, magazines, etc). Taking them out for long romps/runs in the yard does not suffice either - I take out my bike and have them run along side for anywhere from 4 to 5.5 miles. As long as I do this, we have zero chewing issues, and is beneficial for the dogs for other reasons too (keeps them healthy/fit).

RE: Why does my dog chew?

no one said to tie him to a tree, just to yourself!! seriously, its called umbilical training if he is attached to you than you will know what he is doing at all times. if he cant be with you, and you dont crate then he should be in a small secure room that has been doggy proofed so he cant get into anything. I would get a couple of kongs, fill them with peanut butter or yogurt and freeze them. you need several kongs so that while one is freezing you will have one that is ready for him. that should keep him busey for a while. you have a golden retriever they like to mouth stuff. goldens are in the sporting group he probably needs a lot more exercise. a long walk, obedience training, swimming if you can, and a good game of fetch should help curb the problem. btw how old is murphy, goldens can remain puppy like in behaviour for years.

RE: Why does my dog chew?

Tie him to a tree?

wow what an answer.

What do you do with your dog?
How long do you walk him?
Play with him?

A dog is not just something you can put off, if you do not feel like it.
They need your attention everyday.

Your dog is bored, you are lucky he does not chew himself raw.

spend some time with your friend.
If that is too much, find someone who will.

RE: Why does my dog chew?

Dogs chew because they are board. Dogs cannot cure boredom like we can by logging into a computer or plugging in a game system to a television. We have to consider them and how they must feel cooped up. So get your dog some chew toys that might help.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

RE: Why does my dog chew?

Thx,but i don't have a crate,he's not a puppy,and i can't tie him to a tree!!!!!!!

RE: Why does my dog chew?

very easy problem to solve crate when you cannot watch him, plenty of chew toys, keep him on leash so you can give a correction when you catch him chewing inappropriatly, and last but not least make sure to keep stuff that you can picked up and out of reach. I have raised 4 guide dog puppies I know how annoying and frustrating chewing can be

RE: Why does my dog chew?

Simba likes to chew on stuff once in a while. I try to buy him bones but the next day they always disappear. Try to find something he can chew on so he doesn't get things he's not allowed too. BTW, i'll tell Simba to go visit Murphy, he always loves meeting new freinds.

RE: Why does my dog chew?

Is your dog a puppy? If so, it's probably teething. Just like babies do! Whenever your dog chews something you can always give him a firm "no", or maybe spray him with water? And also, Oliver chews things just before he goes to sleep, so maybe your doggie is tired. Hope this helps!

Why does my dog chew?

My dog chews anything he can when he can.How do I stop that and how can I make sure that he won't do it ever again.I told my mom to get apple spray, that stuff you spray around your house. There's just one little problem,we have a two story house and my mom doesn't want to have to spray the whole house.I have three dogs.one of them is golden retiver named Murphy.(80259?or Murphy)if you want to see him,go type Murphy in the serch box when you go to dog blogs. The other two dogs are there to.But anyways,so how do I stop that problem with out buying apple spray?PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
