If you are new at dog raising, then the training school is best. But if you are educated in dog obedience then do that on your own. Again, I think it really depends.

RE: Which do you prefer?

My older cousin trains my dog, but my cousin says its easier doing it urself...

RE: Which do you prefer?

I prefer attending classes with my dogs. It's fun and informative. I enjoy socializing with other dog owners. My dogs benefit from the socialization with other people and strange dogs and doing it together strengthens our relationship. Even though some people are quite capable of training on their own, classes allow new thoughts, ideas and techniques. It's a win/win situation.

RE: Which do you prefer?

I prefer to train my dog myself. The work gets done, but not by you, and your dog does not see you as pack leader. I also would like to learn with my dog, not about my dog. It misses the point of a great experience. Does that sound too corny?

RE: Which do you prefer?

i perfer train your dogs yourself!

RE: Which do you prefer?

I too agree with all of you with training yourself. Although, I do bring Ralph to obedience school. At this school, you and your dog go together, and they train you to train them. They are never training your dog. Any command comes from my mouth. Anything they learn, is from me..its actually been very helpful. Ralph finished puppy kindergarden where it basically taught him sit, down, leave-it.. and to socialize. He is now in basic obedience--learning alittle more every week. Its very reasonably priced-- I think I'm paying $80 or so for 8 weeks. That is cheep. Its an hour long class.. and it is so much fun!! Ralph loves it..**I could never send him somewhere to have someone else train-- that would just be wierd!!

RE: Which do you prefer?

I would defenetly train my own dogs

RE: Which do you prefer?

thanx, and its all true... Training school can teach you to be a more assertive Pack Leader for your Dog\Best Friend, and help you learn how to teach him the basic commands\basic manners that he\she needs to live in the world. I can't decide so I used slashes in my post!

RE: Which do you prefer?

I feel like both my dog and me have accomplished something when they learn a trick. I LOVE training Lumpi and since I work with him every day, I understand his body language more, I know what his next movement will be, I even know when he is just about to bark! And I love it!

I would NOT pay anybody anything to have this wonderful feeling that I can have with him, when he/we learn a trick just as MayaWolf said! I am so proud of us, when I can show our new tricks to my husband, or anybody!

Also, I do think that there are people that are just unable to train their own dogs. They just don't have the patience or the desire. I think it's like you buy a dog and then take your puppy to a doggie day car every day from 7am - 8pm. What's the point of having a dog if you don't really have her/him.

A little bit as if you had kids. Would YOU want to raise them or pay someone to do your job?

RE: Which do you prefer?

i train my dogs my self it is so fun i love it

RE: Which do you prefer?

I love, love, love training my own dogs. I worked with a guy a few years ago who paid big bucks for this Chesapeake Bay Retriever and sent him away to trained for hunting. He paid like $500.00 a week to have this dog trained and when they went out in the fall the dog would not hunt to save his life. He sent the dog back to the same trainer and was charged again $500.00 a week. Unbelievable. I would also like to hunt with my Krissy and can only find trainers who want to take her. I won't do it. I might as well given birth to this dog and I won't send her to who knows where, to be fed who knows what and sleep who knows where and be treated who knows how. No matter what you will never know what happens when you drive away. I have had people want me to obedience train their dogs for them and I won't do it. At the end of the day you will want you dog to listen to you and interact with you and I don't think you will get that if someone else trains for you. Always research your trainers and if you are not comfortable with how they are asking you to treat your dog walk...no run....away.

RE: Which do you prefer?

both are good, but in some way, I like to train my dogs myself.

Which do you prefer?

Which do you prefer, sending your dog to obedience school or training them yourself?
