I have two 9 month old pitbulls(brother & sister). Their names are Spot & Claudette. I've seen people in the internet opposing pitbulls and the other bully breeds. To admit the truth, when I was younger I USED TO BE AFRAID. That was because of all the publicity. One day after a volleyball game, my family decided to visit Petsmart and Petco because I love dogs. They wanted to make it up to me because of giving up my Irish Setter which by the way came from a breeder which was a scam. Horrible behavior, too expensive for too much money ($1,500). As I was walking in the store in Petco, I saw two little cute yellow labs (8 weeks). I didn't notice they were already adopted. So we moved onto Petsmart which was like 5 minutes away. I saw 2 black and white pitbulls. The volunteers of the adoption program said they had been abandoned by their owner(they were unwanted because there were "too many puppies to take care of". The girl was shy and timid. She would run away from everyone when they let her out of the cage. Soon after, I saw myself holding her in my arms. We had this trust or bond with eachother. My little sister took the brother. They are the sweetest dogs. Claudette, the one who used to be timid is now all playful, running to recieve people, and even when i'm sitting down, she rests her head up against my lap. They're like any other dog. One of the best be honest. Chihuahuas and the little toy dogs, forget them! When will they be useful in an emergency?Pitbulls will do anything for their family. And that is why I am against people who waste their time posting topics in the internet just talking about violence. That was atleast 150 years ago! Don't you think they've adapted to a loving attitude? Look at Bull Mastiffs they were used for the Romans with the soldiers. Do they just run to you and start abusing you. These are the owners. And that is why the breeders or shelters ask you, "Will you be responsible?" If not, walk away, because your just putting a bad reputation for this breed. They are innocent.

Puppy Litter Box

I have seen puppy litter boxes or something like fake grass for indoor potty training.

My puppy is approx 8 weeks old and needs to go out alot. I would love to hear from anyone that HAS actually has this problem with their pup and managed to resolve it. She will go in the backyard whilst off leash and she will quickly turn around and consume it. I have tried the bitter apple spray, which helps if I am hovering over her and manage to saturate it before she gets to it. However, occasionally she beats me to the punch!

Has anyone tried the additives that you put in her food to deter dogs away from this behavoir and if so, was it successful?

Thanks,

eagle3

I love Puppies

If you have a puppy tell me its name what it is what it likes to and what dose it do thats funny

Pit Bull Puppy!!!

I wanted to let you guys know that I am going to pick up Rikki, a 8 month old Pit Bull puppy tomorrow!!! My husband has always wanted a dog, so new we are getting a puppy. I have no idea what to do with him. He will be 14 weeks old when we get him. I've been reading books and talking to trainers and petco and petsmart, but everyone seems to have a different opinion. He is a golden lab, and I will be crate training him. I could really use some advice on toilet training and everything else...(from the second he walks in our door)

I'm clueless, but want to be the best puppy mom I can be. :-)

Thanks!

Lisa

We adopted a golden puppy, oh boy..

Hi there,

I am new to the forum and my husband and I have just adopted an 8wk old golden retriever. We have 3 cats as well and have had them for a number of years. This dog situation is a whole new thing to us and our older cats.

We are crating the pup and I find this very tricky. I like everyone have read all kinds of different methods, ways to do things and not to do. And I feel overwhelmed.

First off, I get that you take them out after eating(10-15mins or so) for a washroom break and that the feeding should be consistent schedule. But how often do you take her out just for play alone and if you do, do you give her some water then, how much water do you allow them to drink? How often in between meals do you take them for a washroom break? Or even just and exercise break?

I woke up at 5am this morning to get her out out of concern that she was in there too long from (11pm to 5am). She had a washroom break before bed and did both though.

I think I am just finding that getting on a routine with her is hard, mainly because of her needs and then the needs of our 3 cats who have enjoyed many years of sitting out in the backyard for hrs. I am trying to balance it but its hard.

The other challenge is the chewing and wanting to eat everything in the backyard especially It is exhausting, she just keeps putting everything from plants to rocks to half eaten chestnut tree nuts. I discipline her with a firm NO and try to direct her to her chew toys but she just keeps going back to things. Please tell me that all this effort will not be in vain and that she will grow out of it with repetition discipline and such..

eagle3

jack russells

my dog bites when he plays how can i stop this

does anybody like jack russell's?

I have a 16 week old jack russell terrier his name is biscuit he is so adorable he has a brown head and a white body he is kind of tiny for his age my mom said he will weigh up to 15 pounds. but he growing rabidly but sometimes he likes to chew on my shoes and he is not quite potty trained yet.

I love my Schnoodle Puppy!

We just adopted a 10 month old schnoodle named Stella! It had been a loooonnnnnggggg time since I had gone thru the "puppy phase" of dog ownership....and I was nervous about it this time around.

NOW...I remember the JOY of the puppy phase and couldn't be happier!!! I thought the only solution was new carpeting! I found an amazing pet stain, odor and pheromone extractor called Get Serious at petsmart... people were raving about it on the petsmart website. I used it and it completely cleaned my carpet- no more stains or bad smells- and my little yorkies no longer return to those “anointed” areas because the smell obviously no longer lingers to attract them back! If you are having this same problem I would definitely recommend giving this a try!

New Puppy Pics!

This is pics of my Brittany pup that I got on June 19th!! Or is this a really odd question??

Another new puppy!!! I have a show quality Pyrenees Puppy for adoption. I rescued him, contacted the breeder, who told me he was sold with full registration as a show prospect. He is a gorgeous white with badger marking, and is called Ace (Mystical Ace of Spades, is what we like to call him) He is finally back to health and ready to go to his new home! He does have one problem and that is with his food...He loves to eat and doesn't like other dogs getting to close, so he will need either trainning or fed seperately from the other dogs. He is a gorgeous show prospect and a big boy! 4 months old and 60 lbs!!! He is amazing! Please let me know if you are intersted in this amazing boy!

STOP DIGGING!!

HOW DO I GET MY PUP TO STOP DIGGING??

I can't seem to get him to stop. I've brought this subject up once before on here but can't find the topic--- please help with any solutions. I had 5 new holes in my yard this weekend. Some said to make a spot where he can dig.. I don't really want to do that cuz then it will just tell him its ok to dig and possibly go to another area where he is not suposed to, and dig?? I don't know, its really frusturating.

Scottish Terrier puppy?

Has anybody ever owned a Scottish Terrier Puppy? Both times the vet office has wanted her to come in and I took her. I am concerned that maybe I am being over protective in taking her to the Dr. so soon. Both times she has only been sick a couple of times. Do you think I should wait next time or take her on to the vet. It cost alot to go to the Dr. so frequently. Just wanted a couple of opinions. Thanks.

Look at my puppy

Hi everyone I am getting a corgi puppy during the 3rd week in may and the breeder sent me pics of the puppy I want.Tell me what you think!!!

<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick="return Control.invoke('ReadingPane', '_onAttachmentClick', event);" height=480 alt="" src="http://co119w.col119.mail.live.com/att/GetAttachment.aspx?tnail=2&messageId=ecf62de8-a350-4532-9471-edd5ad4c9a5d&Aux=44|0|8CB8423B63E1390|" width=528>

puppy checklist

Hi everyone, like alot of you saw I am getting a puppy and was wondering what I would have to get ready for her.I have another dog but the last breeder told us everything we needed to have.I know you have to have a crate, toys, bowls, leash and collar. But I was wondering if I was missing anything. Thanks

rescued maltese

I rescued a maltese from a puppy mill. 3yrs, old.
