Your dog will pick up on these negative emotions and will feel confused, upset and even scared because of this. I know that potty training is very important, but you have to ease up and not make such a big deal out of accidents. Of course, you have to praise the dog when it does it's business outdoors. A calmer attitude goes a very long way, believe me. Your dog will learn at it's own pace. So what if the co-worker's pup was housebroken in 2 days, maybe your's will take 2 weeks, and maybe 2 months, but it WILL happen. Be consistent and calm! Good luck to all.

RE: Dog Training Tips

Ok if its fear aggression then why do I almost get bite 3 times when I wanted to give Max a bath and he want let you touch him on the neck I had to trick him to get the callor on him twice and if you touch his callor he trys to bite you and that means I cani't put a leash on him my Aunt thincks he may been abused when he was younger Max will be 1 in October 12 of this year so he is still a puppy. There is a Petco opening on the 25 of this month and they will have classes but you said they were no good and cost alot then where can I take Max for training I live in Mo near Branson.

RE: Dog Training Tips

Walk the dog twice a day or three times a day it makes for a tired dog and that is good . Our vet told us to keep a collar on him with his leash. Even if we aren't walking him.
when he starts this behavior, we are to immediately tell him no, and lead him from the area.
make him sit and take a time out. If he continues to bark, we take him in the house and don't praise him for anything. He doesn't like this at all and is slowly learning and getting better when he is outside.
Also he mentioned that when we walk him, We might want to consider a Muzzle so he can't attack other dogs. I haven't had the heart to do that yet, but I might some day.
He is worse when he's in his yard than on walks.

RE: Dog Training Tips

Your little dog has fear aggression. I am an obedience trainer at Anderson Obedience Club.
Help your dog to become social by enrolling in a good obedience training club. I got a new puppy in October- my first puppy every. I had a REALLY hard time house breaking her. I thought I tried everything....but I hadn't. I tried the bell training method, and it worked. Nellie Boo caught on within one day. It's simple- just tie a cluster of bells on the door knob or some where near the door (I tied mine on the handle) and everytime you take you dog outside, ring the bell before opening the door.

I hope this helps! Good luck, all you first time owners!

RE: Dog Training Tips

I have an australian shepherd that is REALLY protective of me. If our other dog comes near me and starts to lick or play real rough he will bark or try to get in between me and him for attention for himself. Also any other dogs he meets (especially small ones) cats and small animals he cannot stand. He is getting better when people come around but is still really bad. I watch ceasar millan everyday and am using some of his aggresion tips. I know my Aussie is gonna need alot of excercise so he is going to start on tredmill excercise right away!

RE: Dog Training Tips

I have a problem with my dog charging the door, barking and nipping at our guests. He also barks and chases bikes, people jogging, skateboarders, anything that moves. Although he is a relatively small dog (shih-tzu/yorkie mix) he has a pretty mean bark and growl. I know he would bite if I did not do something. So I hired a private professional dog trainer to work with me and Cocoa. Almost all of his bad habits have gone away with the proper training, but I still can't break this habit of the charging, barking and nipping. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Dog Training Tips

All I have to say is exercise, exercise, exercise a tired dog is a good dog.

RE: Dog Training Tips

if you are tired of your dog barking at people when you are taking your dog on a walk or even if he or she sees the people walkin outside when your dog inside looking out the window.well here is a tip....when your dog barks at someone just go up to your dog take its muzzle hold it tap him or her on the muzzle not hard but to were they can feel it.then after you tapped your dog on the the muzzle to were they can feel it have them look you in the eye and strictly say NO.when mollie was a puppy i did that to her all the time she hated it and she hated it sooooo much she stopped that in a week or two.now MY dog took a week or two now i dont know about your dog.try it.......it works.

RE: Dog Training Tips

if you are tired of your dog barking at people when you are taking your dog on a walk or even if he or she sees the people walkin outside when your dog inside looking out the window.well here is a tip....when your dog barks at someone just go up to your dog take its muzzle hold it tap him or her on the muzzle not hard but to were they can feel it.then after you tapped your dog on the the muzzle to were they can feel it have them look you in the eye and strictly say NO.when mollie was a puppy i did that to her all the time she hated it and she hated it sooooo much she stopped that in a week or two.now MY dog to a week or two now i dont know about your dog.try it.......it works.

RE: Dog Training Tips

good luck!

RE: Dog Training Tips

Dog aggression is something that should be dealt with by a professional. But do not let a behaviorist tell you that it is not fixable because it definitely is. This sounds a lot like a dominance issue. One thing you should not do is nurture that behavior. And not letting other dogs sniff him or be around him will nurture that. If another dog tries to sniff him and he reacts aggressively it is very important that you correct it immediately. Remember, do not yell at the dog or become stressed because that adds stress to the situation and will makes things much worse. Calmly and firmly get your dog's attention to see if you can snap him out of it and if he still reacts aggressively then you need to take control of the situation as you are your dogs pack leader. By being calm that his cue that he too should be calm. Then hold him down by the neck (don't squeeze as you do not want to hurt the dog) using the tips of your fingers to hold him firmly in place and make him submit to the other dog which you should then bring in to sniff your dog.

But you should really consult a professional because this aggression could be targeted towards you next. Also, trying these things without consulting a professional first can end in nasty bites. I also highly recommend watching the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel or if you don't get that channel he has two books out. He's an amazing dog behaviorist whom I have consulted with. His books have everything you need to know about dog psychology. Hope that helps

RE: Dog Training Tips

I have a beagle that is around 5 years old that is neutered.
