Hi there,

We just home got earlier today. We were evacuated Sunday Night.The fires seemed to be upon us when we left. 50-80 mph winds didn't help.We were lucky to have a motorhome, but it became very small with 2 dogs and 3 humans. But amazingly the dogs found little spots to sleep and never even thought about anything but where we were.They ate well and we took them out alot. They seemed at times to be on vacation. But when it came time to go in the Motorhome they settled right down. They were better behaved than at home. Seems like they know.

Hope everyone's pets and animals will be home with their family's soon

Everything is still very smokey and ashy here. I've been trying to keep the kids from tracking black ash all over the house with very little luck!

I'm in Coronado, and I can't even see San Diego on the other side of the bay. Crazy!

Thanks for the good wishes, yup the fires are dieing down here and from what i've heard there hasn't been anymore in our vicinity.

However it is so smokey that that mountain that Starry*boy showed, you can't see it whatsoever! it looks all grey and you can't see any part of the mountain!

I know what you mean by the ashes, it was raining ashes here and evertime i got one in my eye it stung like heck!LOL.

Does anyone know how many fires are still buring?

Thanksfully that fire over the mountain was 85% contained last night and today there doesn't seem to be any new smoke, but everything is hazy still. I heard last night that there was a total of 20 fires! idk if they have spread, put out, or fused. I heard that two fires did fuse together though... Hopefully the wind stays down.

Hey You guys! I didn't know Dc HQ was in souther California! That is really cool! I'm doing okay, the wind is carrying the smoke here and the sky is all brown and the sun is seriously BRIGHT RED! Last night i was able to see the fire on top of that mountain, the one that carrie showed you.

Idk what is going on but so far in my town there has been two fires, one by one of the hills on the west of our town, and another fire was started because a car exploded and caught a house on fire, that was put out by the FD.

There is a bigger fire in our neighboring town but that was extinguished too.

I heard that some of them are arson fires, idk who would do that....

There are so many evacuees here, there are RV's in the Wal Mart parking lot, and some schools have taken in some too.

Well, there are several fires which started for a few different reasons. Unfortunately the conditions are perfect for these fires to grow: high winds, warm temperatures, dry terrain. A few of the reasons: downed power lines, a car back-firing, and possibly arson.

I dont know about steven, I talked to him sunday but i think that was before the fires got bad.

I talked to missmolly last night on the yahoo IM and she was fine.

Well, we haven't had to evacuate, but the smoke and ash is really something else. I woke up yesterday morning to what looked like snow falling from the sky. The whole situation is very sad and very surreal. I've been trying my best to keep the kid and dogs inside most of the day, as the air quality is terrible.

Our local animal shelter where I volunteer is now to capacity. They've asked us not even to come in, as I think they are overwhelmed with the influx of animals.

I ran into a girlfriend at the dog park who went in town for lunch, met some evacuees, and came home with three dogs and a cat. I've offered to take in a single evacuee pup, but no calls yet.

Hope all you other SoCal DCers are safe- Junior, Miss Molly (I think), etc.

By now most people are probably aware of the devastating fires tearing through Southern California. DogChannel and Dog Fancy headquarters are located in Southern California, but are not in any immediate danger.

We're doing our best to cover how this crisis is affecting pets and pet owners, but want to hear from you. Have you or someone you know been affected by the fires? Have they had to evacuate with their dogs?

Or if not the California fires, have you ever had to evacuate your home with your dogs for another reason?

We'd love to hear your stories or any thoughts you have about what's going on!
