Ummm...did you not read anything I just wrote! It had nothing to do with DC, but with you replying to a thread which has been stagnant for weeks. Why are you rehashing old threads? Seems to me you are a troll just trying to stir up trouble. Leave the old posts alone, especially the ones with this sort of tone.

In case you are STILL not understanding me....My problem now is NOT with DogChannel, but with YOU bumping up old posts and rekindling old arguements. Knock it off.

Ok, everyone's trying to get involved with this situation, when all you have to do is QUIT!! If you don't like the newsletter popups, then DON'T get them! If the polls are inacurate and annoying, then talk to the mods or whatever, and handle the situation. If you still are annoyed then just simply don't vote. Obviously everyone did stop posting because it's been 3 weeks since the last person posted....until you decided to bump this back up. There really is no point in rehashing these old topics unless you're just trolling. Really, just let these old posts die. It seems you're the one now wasting time on this.

Hey there,

Just to clarify: The DogChannel e-newsletters are an opt-in service. When signing up for Club Dog, you have the option to select whether you'd like to receive e-mails from the DogChannel team, and whether you'd like to receive e-mails from their partners.

The option of never wanting to receive an e-newsletter was kept out of the poll because it is an opt-in service. The poll was intended to find out -- of those people who chose to receive an e-newsletter, how often they would like to receive one.

People who never want e-newsletters from DogChannel should not receive them unless they subscribe to them.

Also, 2Brown, I'm sorry you're having such trouble with the ads on the boards. I'm forwarding your concern on to appropriate people to see if there's anything we can do.

Is it a problem with pop ups? Or something else?

If it is an opt-in e-newsletter, I have no problem with that. That then isn't spam. However, the way the current poll is structured does not make that clear to voters and can be read (as I read) it as a non-opt-in e-newsletter and that is spam.

If it sends out commercial emails that are not solicited (a.k.a. opt-in), yes, that is spam. That is the very definition of spam.

Second,if theres not an choice you like dont vote! its not misleading. i do this all the time, if theres a poll saying something andit dosent have an option i like than i dont cast a vote.its not a big deal! its a poll. and dog channel isnt supporting ANY spam campaign. ask a d.c. monitor... and try signing up for a news letter.

DogChannel.com's current poll is asking our input on how often we want to be spammed. This is actually probably one of their most important polls since we are being allowed to give input on their email practices. To not vote will not be read as a vote for "Never". Not including that choice makes the poll invalid since it is a very obvious and likely popular option.

No, it is a big deal. DogChannel.com is seeking input on how much they spam us. Them not giving an obvious choice of "Never" makes the poll results misleading. And not voting at all will not be read as a vote for "Never". And I did vote for "monthly" to at least try to reduce the spam as little as possible.

I only get it in Firefox, not IE...

but the point is...DC should not even subject its users to annoying popup ads...whether or not one has a pop-up blocker. It is apparent that DC is more concerned about its advertisers than its users. The pathertic moderation is just another example of their lack of concern for their users.

To, 2browndogs... i have a question for you.... if you think that D.C. has such a lack of concern for their users than why do you come on this web site? and in my own opinion, practly all of the advertisments are to help your dog in some way. and a suggestion, if your so upset about this why not just email them or call them or something? but any were getting off of the topic.

Ummm..hate to disagree with you annielovesmomma, but a newletter which is unwanted and chock full of ads is indeed spam. I have been getting rather annoyed by DC's ads. I've never seen a message board with more ads, and to be honest, I find it bothersome and somewhat insulting to be bombarded with ads. The recent little pop up really gets to me.

But back to topic....yes, all options should be provided in a poll if accurate results are wanted.

Turn your popup blocker "on" and you will stop getting lil ads popping up. It blocks it. Or course our pop up blocker came with out virius and spy wear protection.I havent gotten a pop up in a long time. I dont even get "spam" in my email.

I only get it in Firefox, not IE...

ok well i dont get pop ups and i dont mind the ads. they are not bothersome to me. and i hate to disagree too but i think there just news letters with some ads and not spam. i recently got a news letter with a interveiw about ken foster and the news letter introduced me too some new books about dogs. but than again thats mine opinoin and you have your opinion.... so lets just stick to the topic and not start some drama.

I also have to agree with Fire Tiger...

He might want the emails anyway, that's why he was sent the email in the first place. But there are people who don't want any news lettters from them, and he's thinking about them. You can't tell me you haven't stuck up for someone whose views are different from yours, right?

Of course, I don't know this....just making an assumption, because that's probably what I would do.

Besides, the poll shows up on the homepage too, right? What if they wanted to answer there and "Never" wasn't on there?

Back on topic, I really think "Never" should be an option on the poll.

First, if it isn't an opt-in email, it is spam. I would hope that DogChannel.com is a responsible emailer.

Second, what I was talking about was the poll DogChannel.com was conducting. Without giving the choice of "Never", it is an invalid poll since its results do not give poll takers this option. It is like having a poll, "When would you like to be killed?" and not have the "Never" option. What you have is a poll that makes the wrong assumption that everyone wants to get the e-newsletter and I am willing to bet all my points that such is not the case. Unless DogChannel.com wants false false results support a spam campaign, it needs to redo the poll and give the "Never" option so it can get a true picture of preferences.

I'm in agreement with Fire Tiger. If all options cannot be provided in a poll, then the poll should not even be conducted, as it would be inaccurate. I can see why you're frustrated.

eta: I think most of the posters missed the point the OP was trying to make...which wasn't wanting a lesson on how to remove himself/herself from a mailing list, but wanting DC to provide a poll of which the results would be accurate...especially if it involves user imput about DC's email practices.
