Allison,

I totally understand! About a year and half ago, we had to put down our precious Tawny, and she was only a 1 1/2 years old. She had kidney failure, and although we tried to do everything we could, it was just too late. I still miss her so much to this day! She was a wonderful dog, and I am grateful for the time we had with her. But deciding to let her go was one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make, although I know it was the right one. It just still hurts so much some times. And I just can't help but feel how unfair it was that she had such a short time on this earth, although I know that is the way it works some times.

My heart goes out to you.

I hear ya! We got a little elderly pomeranian last year that would have gone to a shelter. She brought us so much joy. We only had a little over a year with her when we had to let her go this July. One of my "insensitive" responded with "so you weren't that attached" after finding out how long we had her. There were a lot of pet visits and money involved, but I only regret that we didn't get to spend more time with her. Ginger was such a wonderful little girl!

Yes, I got attached to several dogs at my county shelter just the first time I walked them, and they're all adults, you can tell! (Smokey, Maggie, Boe, and Gus.) I also tend to get attached to cats very easily as well. I just can't resist a cat or dog! I still miss my kitten he was about 6 months old, my mom accidently ran over him. I'm kind of thankful that he went, I try to tell myself that it was for the best because Mom let me get Jax after that...

For the record, Smokey is a GSD mix, Maggie is a husky mix, Boe is a HUGE lab/chow, and Gus is a blue tick (mix, I don't know). I mean Boe is HUGE!!!

isn't it amazing how quickly we become attached to a sweet little puppy? we rescued a sickly little girl and i nursed her for a little while but i guess it was too late to help her. that was over a year ago and i still miss her so much. even as sick as she was she still tried to get up and run and play with everyone else. the only thing that makes me feel a little better is that at least her last days her belly was full, she was warm and dry and she knew how love felt.
