I feel so sorry for you. The dog is not untrainable, but I guess your mom just doesn't feel like taking the time to train him. You are in my thoughts and prayers......

I'm so sorry for your lose! If my mom had taken my puppy smoky away I would have died(no really he saved me by pulling me out of the way of a car!)

It's taken me awhile to come back here because I'm very confused. I do understand the pain of loss, I have lost animals that I had for many years and had bonded with, they were like dear, dear friends. If you Love Sammy, seeing your mother hit him should bring on a feeling of protectiveness, of wanting to save him. By wanting to keep him in a place where you know he will be abused, you are treating him like a possession, not a living being, with feelings.

And what's up with doing an intro., very upbeat, saying you know everything on the evening of the 10th. After you have spent the last 3 days crying about losing him??? I am VERY confused!!!!

I agree with dobermom you are 13 their is no reason why you shouldnt be able to train the dog talk to your mom have her help maybe sign up for 4-h dog club if you have one in your area feed the dog yourself walk him everyday go to your library and get some books on dog training my son is 11 years old and for the past 2 years he has been a puppy raiser for a guide dog school he has taken a standard poodle and a doberman through obedience class was it easy no did he get frustrated and say the dogs were dumb yes but he stuck with it and tried his hardest and in a week or two he will be helping train an ex-racing greyhound we are going to be fostering my 7 year old wants to join 4-h when he is old enough(9yrs. old) so he has started training our sheltie and he is doing pretty good so my point is dont give up show your mom you are responsable enough to own a dog

My dad goes 2 work every day and does't come back till the weekend! It's 2 late Dobermom! My mom already taled 2 some1 and they said that they would ask ppl if they wanted a lab! It's not fair! U know? When I was little I would wish on a star that I could have a dog! And I did while I'm 13! I got 2! The first 1 got given away and now the second 1 is! My wishes just ment amiss! It's just not fair! There's nothing I can do! Absolutely nothing!

the worst thing you can do is feel sorry for yourself right now.
Grab the Bull by the Horns, start spending your time with your dog, train him, teach him, talk to your mother.
Where is your dad??
Grandparents???
Get a friends involved, together you can go for walks.

Yea If sammy is getting mistreated then he needs to find a new home. You may think he is untrainable but you might be taking the wrong apporach espcially if he is being hit which is no way to train a dog. But yea rescues are a good place to take them i volunteer at one and do fostering and its a nice place to let a dog go to its better then him getting mistreated by your mom.

If your mom has been yelling at, and hitting Sammy, then we know why he has behavior issues! I hate to say it but if that's how your mom is going to treat (abuse) Sammy, then you'll be showing your love for him by finding him a new home and I still say a rescue is probably your best bet. Just plead with your mom to let you do it. If you leave it up to your mom there's no telling who he might go to! Your mom IS ABUSING Sammy. No puppy should ever be yelled at or hit!!! I know it's hard, but you really must get Sammy away from your mom. Do it for him.

I wish I could take credit for smarts, but I saw a reference on the home page; volunteer at a shelter, or maybe the rescue group. That would give you great experience with all kinds of dogs and puppies.

I wish I could do something, but I can't. The only one who can save Sammy is you. If your mom keeps yelling at and hitting Sammy, she's going to make him mean. For him it would be pure self defence. But if, and when he does turn, to defend himself, and attacks someone, the police might come out and shoot him. I know you don't want that.

Sometimes the only way to love something, is to let it go.

Oh child, I am sooo sorry. It sounds like your mom has made up her mind? I have no doubt that your puppy is NOT untrainable. It takes experience and lots of work. It's fun work when you know what you're doing! Use this site or google dog rescue (your area). There could be a Lab rescue or certainly one that takes all dogs. Since he really should have had his basic training already, I'll bet he'd be considered "difficult". A rescue might be your best bet. At least that way you'd know they'll find a good home for him. Good rescues are very particular about adopters, ask them (rescue) if it is their policy to take the dog back if the adoptive home doesn't work out. That's a pretty good way to know if it is a good organization, also they should have been around at least a few years, and have references. I'm telling you this so, at least you can have some peace of mind.

Maybe your mom would let you have a dog, relatively soon, if you be sure to ask for an adult dog, already trained. Tell her that an adult is what you REALLY want. Mom would be happier in the long run and you'd not only have a dog, but get the experience you need for the future.

STAY IN TOUCH, there are many people here that want to know that you are all right. Life isn't fair, but this is above and beyond unfair.

I have an 8 month old labrador retriever and my mom is giving him away cuz we can't handle him! His name is Sammy! Plz help me! I don't know what 2 do! I don't want him 2 go but he's untrainable! I keep telling my mom 2 do crate training but it would take along time before she would do that! She wants 2 give him away before school starts! This is so confusing! Plz help me!
