We have three now - a 12 year old Basset Hound, a 2 year old mix breed and an almost 1 year old Mini Schnauzer.

I have 3 wonderful dogs. I perter rescue. and for some reason I always end up with the most damaging ones that need so much. But I love it. they all get along well and all need some work when I first got them. One at a time. could not give any one of them up. I have a black lab.mix/ flat coated retreiver/and a papillon.

I have a longhaired miniature dachshund and a Westie. Both of them are 2 rotten for words, but they do still realize that I am the boss and they are the dogs... I figure they deserve to be spoiled for being well behaved

Good morning all!
We have two girls. A Pekeapoo (Gizzy) 10.7 yrs.
Also a Pomeranian (Emily) 1.7 yrs. They both have birthdays in March. We are seriously
considering another Pom. pup real soon. Hopefully by Christmas. They have to get a little bigger. Having more than one is an adventure! They are so much company & alot of fun. I wouldn't give up any of them. Peke & Pom Mom

I really appreciate your nice replies. I do like the Red Livernosed RRs but the Brown with the Black Mask is cute too! That coloring is the most common one I see around here, and I would consider getting one for my next RR. I am planning on getting a Male next. He'll be a boyfriend for my Female RR. But thats much further down the road. I have stilll got a few good years with my Vizsla Mix. And by that time Akilah will be about 5 or so, and morning the loss of her "not blood related" sister\buddy. It will definately be time for another RR! My fiancee says that this is the best dog he has ever had, and I am for sure he willll want another one!

Leopardgurl, I went to that web site, it was very interesting. There livernose dogs are very striking (although I can't say that too loud or I'll have some upset babies on my hands). If you have some favorite ridgeback books I would love to know what they are. I am always wanting to fill my head with as much information as I can. Actually that gives me a good idea for a post of peoples favorite dog books. It's nice to have another ridgeback owner around to trade info with!

oh, you have 2 young RRs in your house. What fun that must be! I can verify from various sources that the livernose is more calm because I have read about it in many newer RR books, And I got the text in my last post from a site called african-legends.com, and clicked on the "more on the liver nose" link on the left hand side of the page near the bottom. Its a really good article, so go check it out when you can. I had also met a guy at a conformation dog show who had one he was showing and had had one before this one, and he said he had to have another livernose because they seemed more laid back and calmer in their nature, and their coat quality seemed better. he also said he noticed that the dead hairs didn't fall out as much and scatter along the back of the dog, making it look ugly when the dog was ready to be shown. Interesting huh?

Hey! Its cool to see others who have Rhodesians! I have an approx. rescued 3 year old Red Livernosed Vizsla Mix and a Fullblooded Red Livernosed Rhodesian Ridgeback. You might find this interesting about Red Livernosed RRs....

It has been said the brown nose is more intelligent and more calm and "laid back" in nature. In our experience with the brown nose, we have found them generally to be a little gentler, softer-natured dog. This is relatively speaking, since Ridgebacks as a whole have these and each is an individual. Since all Ridgebacks are intelligent, we have not noticed that much difference in intelligence, but we do notice improved coat quality and coloring with a slicker, red wheaten coat.

Hey Leopardgurl, I haven't heard that before. I think all Ridgebacks are intelligent too, but I could see maybe the livernose being calmer. Mine both have black noses (not always so laid back). We don't see a lot of ridgebacks around here, but most of them seem to have black noses too. If I see one with a livenose I'll have to ask if they are more laid back.

I currently have 3 dogs two shelties ages 2.5 and 5.5 years and a standard poodle guide dog in training that is 9 months old she will be leaving us at 12 months to go through formal training and be placed with a blind person
