Cinnamon's mom is called Lucy. I know the father's name, too, but I can't think of it right now. It'll probably come to me later, when I'm not trying to think of it. That's what usually happens when I can't remember something.

I have Alaskan Malamutes. Not only do I know my dogs parents names, I am currently doing a thorough research of their pedigrees as far back as I can. I plan to connect their family trees at some point as they are of course, distant cousins. Though I still have many holes in the trees, I have already taken two of them back to the first Malamutes registered and before. I enjoy reading the pedigrees, wonderful names and histories.

My girls parents were registered AKC mini dachshunds. Their daddy was the same & his plain name was Rudy. The girls mommies were sisters & their plain names were--Chloe's momma-Diamonte' & Gretta's momma-Chocolate'. We made the girls AKC names after their parents names. Chloe's name is Lady Chloe of Rudolphs' Diamond Girl. Gretta's name is Miss Gretta of Rudolphs' Chocolate Weenie. So cute!!

I'm not sure about Simba's but Bandito's dad was ofcourse Simba and his mom Was a black terrier named Fluffy.She lived across the street and they wanted to breed them so my dad said yes and out came Bandito !!

Sure, I do, six generations back on both his Dam's and Sire's sides. I am very thankful for all the work that went into making Mr Wookie.

However, with every "rescue" I have had that I didn't know so many generations back, I was just as thankful. I have loved all my dogs so much and been thankful for what they added to my life.

I know all of my dogs parents names and grand parents,and great grand parents. I research pedigrees before getting a puppy or adult if I am showing or possibly breeding that dog. On rescues it doesnt matter who there parents were as long as they get our devoted love and attention.

Annie's dam is Heidi and sire is Dokata

Scooter's dam is Whisper and I forget the sire's name

they are all registered with AKC I just put their call name's (didn't want to take time to get papers out)

My border collie puppy is a farm puppy so his parents don't have any grand long names like the show dogs. I actually like the short and to the point names, though. His mom's name is Betsey and his dad's name is Champ. My dog's name is Riley and his middle name is Champion, after his father.

I know the names of my current dogs' parents:

Fiona's parents are: Cinnabon & Ranger

Archie's parents are: Amber & Chuck

I know they have longer - registered names....but those are their call names. I unfortunately didn't get to meet Fiona's dad...nor did I neet either of Archie's parents. I had Archie shipped up - from a respected, reliable, breeder - who was located in South Carolina.

Kudos to Delta Airlines for Flying my baby up here - on Christmas Weekend, no less!!

I actually haven't ever seen any obviously purebred dogs who were denied ILPs. And I have seen lots and lots of obviously NOT purebred dogs who have gotten ILPs, so (for the most part) AKC seems to err on the side of granting ILPs, not denying them. In any case, Jaxon is obviously a purebred sibe, so I would be absolutely astounded if he couldn't get an ILP.

By the way, it wouldn't have mattered if his eyes were brown. Brown eyes are perfectly correct in a siberian.

Thanks so much, Shiba! Now all I have to do is convince my parents to get him registered... maybe I could pay the fee. I have enough money. Might have to wait a while, but I can still try. He's got obedience classes starting in March, so it might be a while before we actually will register him. Plus he's got to be neutered, we've got to take pictures, it's a good thing he has blue eyes! I'm going to stop ranting now.

The AKC, ILP and You
Many people have discovered the fun of teaming up with their dogs and competing in AKC Events. But, not all of those wonderful canine athletes that you see at these events are registered with the AKC. Some might be enrolled in the AKC's Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP), a program that allows unregistered dogs of registrable breeds to compete in AKC Performance and Companion Events, also 26 specific breeds in the FSS® Program that are eligible for Companion Events.

If you have a purebred dog that cannot be registered with the AKC and have a desire to see what your dog can do in real competition, an ILP number is your ticket to the world of AKC events and clubs!

Indefinite Listing Privilege Program (ILP): The program that provides purebred dogs a second chance.
There are various reasons why a purebred dog might not be eligible for registration. The dog may be the product of an unregistered litter, or have unregistered parents. The dog's papers may have been withheld by its breeder or lost by its owner. Sometimes, it is the dog itself that was "lost." There are many dogs enrolled in the ILP program after they have been surrendered or abandoned, then adopted by new owners from animal shelters or purebred rescue groups. The ILP program allows the dog and owner a second chance at discovering the rewards of participating in AKC events.

What AKC events may an ILP dog Participate in?
The Indefinite Listing Privilege Program (ILP) is designed to allow dogs to participate in AKC Companion and Performance Events. The AKC Events that an ILP dog can participate in are:

Agility Trials (All Breeds)
Earthdog Trials (Small Terriers and Dachshunds)
Herding Tests and Trials ( Herding Breeds, Rottweilers and Samoyeds)
Hunt Tests (Most Sporting Breeds and Standard Poodles)
Junior Showmanship (All Breeds)
Lure Coursing (Sighthounds)
Obedience Trials (All Breeds)
Rally Trials (All Breeds)
Tracking Tests (All Breeds)

Once enrolled in the ILP program, entering AKC events is as easy as with a registrable dog. The only difference is that instead of an AKC registration number, you would list the dog's ILP number on the Entry form.

How can you apply for an ILP number?
Applications for enrollment into the Indefinite Listing Program can be downloaded or by emailing ILP@akc.org. When requesting a form via email please include your name and current mailing address. Remember, ILP numbers can only be issused to AKC registrable breeds.

The following must be submitted with a completed ILP application:

Two recent and clear color photographs of the dog;
- one full front view showing the facial characteristics of the dog;
- one view showing the full side profile of the dog standing on a flat surface (not grass).
(ALL PHOTOS SHOULD BE TAKEN AT EYE LEVEL IN A STANDING POSITION,
INCLUDE THE WHOLE DOG IN THE PHOTO. DO NOT SHOOT DOWN ON THE DOG.)
Proof from a veterinarian that the dog has been spayed/neutered.
A non-refundable $35.00 application fee.

Once compiled, the completed ILP application along with the items listed above should be mailed to:

Enrollment in the Indefinite Listing program is not to be construed as an alternative form of registration, but rather, as a listing so that dogs who are ineligible for AKC registration may participate in AKC Companion and Performance Events. An ILP may be cancelled for cause.

Over 2000 dogs were granted ILP numbers in the year 2001, and the American Kennel Club awarded over 2000 AKC titles to ILP dogs in that same year. Enrollment in the ILP program is easy and the benefits for you and your dog are endless.

I can't *guarantee* that your dog will receive the ILP, but you probably stand a very good chance. Jaxon looks similar to many pet Siberians, so my guess is that you will have very few problems. Good luck!

Here are some tips for you to aid in success - take *very* good photos of your dog, and *ensure* that they highlight the attributes that scream he is a Siberian Husky. Go and look up photos of show quality Siberians on the internet (the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show site has a great one - you can look up past breed winners), and stack ("pose") Jaxon like these dogs. If he has blue eyes make sure to send in a photo that shows this as well, so that the evaluator can be sure he is not an Alaskan Malamute (which cannot have blue eyes).

Oh yes - and the events you *may* compete in with Jaxon are listed above, I believe.

Siberians,

I agree with PudelGrl in that from the pictures we have to work with, evaluating Jaxon would be very difficult. Stacked photos are the best type of photos for this sort of discussion. Too, I agree that I'd feel uncomfortable evaluating a representative of a breed that I am not intimately involved with. Pudel is right - the standard is one thing, but it's definitely just the beginning. There are nuances to each breed's conformation that you discover when you become more involved with them (in this case, in a conformational sense ie working with show dogs). What *is* obvious about Jaxon is that he *is* a Siberian Husky. He should have no trouble getting an ILP, imo - although in the past I have heard of people that were denied ILPs to their dogs that were without question purebred. At any rate, I sincerely doubt that will happen to Jaxon - he looks like a Sibe in all ways, just not a show Sibe.

It also helps to go over the standard multiple times and later do so with a mentor who knows your breed better than you do. You may discover that what you *think* is correct is really just your own misinterpretation, or that you haven't been exposed to enough examples of the breed. For example, if I was only evaluating the two dogs I owned for correct eye and expression, but never compared them to any others in my breed, might I think that I had a dog with a very correct eye, only because I'd never bothered to see what else was out there? Or I might examine my own dog's coat and think "yes, this feels pretty harsh and hard, with a soft undercoat" - but how many dogs in the breed have I been exposed to, and allowed to evaluate their coats? Maybe the coat feels harsh to me because it is harsh in comparison to most other dog breeds...but for a Shiba, it's on the lower end of the quality spectrum! See what I mean?

Anyway Siberians - as long as you are approved for an ILP you can compete in most any AKC events that allow Siberians (so you wouldn't be competing in terrier-specific, going-to-ground sports, for example). In other words, the world is your oyster with the exception of conformation - but you could potentially do Juniors if you wanted to (although there are certainly people who will say that it's harder to get to the highest point in juniors without a show quality dog - though that isn't to say it can't be done).

Haha - for the person that posted the "mystery dog" - that's a BUNNY, isn't it? Very cute! I'm not involved with rabbits in any way, but I'll take a stab at it and guess it's an Angora...? Maybe? Lol - whatever it is, it's SUPER cute.

Indy's dam is Misty Eyed Chessie. Indy's sire is Dakota Master. Though he came from breed rescue, he came with blank AKC papers. So we were able to register and name him ourselves- Dakota's Indigo Eyed Orphan.

Jasmine's dam is Chesabar's Morgan of Desert Winds. Her sire is Chesbar's Dzrt Wnds Tuk'r Two. Jazzies registered name is Desert Winds Island Jasmine.

He wasn't registered at all, and neither were his parents, they weren't good representatives, but for some reason he is. Even when we first got him I pulled out my breed book and looked through it, I read the standard and he almost fit it well, at just 7 weeks. Of course, we won't know exactly how big he'll get, but most of the things already fit him. Like the personality, fur type, tail, etc. We're going to neuter him eventually anyway, so that's not a problem. Even if he's not registered at all, can he still do agility, and obedience, and all that stuff? (With the exception of conformation.) If so, all I have to do is neuter him, send in pics, and compete?

Here are some pics, think he looks like a good show type? I know that he won't be in conformation, but do you think Siberian traits just stand out well?

yep, ILPs allow you guys to compete in just about any AKC event.

As far Jaxon being good conformationally, its probably best to talk to a reputable breeder about it (though be honest, let them know you don't intend breeding him). I don't know much about the Husky standard and I haven't any pictures that would allow me to wager my thoughts on him (Stacked from front, back and side, plus a direct on expression are best). As I've discovered over my years of learning the poodle standard, there's quite a bit more to it than what is written down. I actually found a website that might interest you, it's kossok.com/sibes/info/analysis/analysis.htm (copy/paste). 3 rather prominant siberian breeders have put together quite a few pictures of dogs with their various faults and virtues. Might help you in your learning experience.

Hmmm, well we got our dog from the pet store, so I don't know his parents name. From his personality I would have to venture a guess of ... his sires name `La Stupid' and his dam's name ` La Dizzy' ... (Jokin). I love my silly Retriever's, they are goof but I love them. I wish they would dark when people come over though, they love people so much they just stare. But if a plastic bags blows into the yard they go coo-coo! Ha ha ... ahhhh ya gotta love dogs

Can your dog be registered in any way with the AKC if neither of the parents are registered? I don't think they can, just wondering, because I want to know if I can get Jax registered in any way possible. You can tell he's a purebred, he's already a GREAT breed representative.

If you don't have any of his original registration papers (or if he did not come with them), then he cannot be registered with the AKC. If he came with papers to a club that was recognized as valid by the AKC (CKC, by which I mean Canadian Kennel Club, not ConKC, for example), you could then apply for dual registration. But once again, if you never sent in his original registration papers or if he never came with any of them, you are out of luck in that respect.

What you COULD do is apply for an AKC ILP, which stands for Indefinite Listing Privilege. The ILP allows you to compete with your dog in most AKC sanctioned events (Obedience, Agility, Rally, Juniors, etc), with the exception of conformation, seeing as that is an evaluation of breeding stock (and it's not going to do anyone much good to evaluate a dog whose parentage is unknown or questionable). To qualify for an ILP Jaxon must be neutered, and you would have to send in some photos of him that clearly illustrate he is a purebred Siberian Husky.

I dont know Rusty and Megans' parents registered names. Their 'common' names are Zena (mom) and Wodan (father). Rusty and Megan are purebreds, but we were not able to get papers for them because the lady we got them from never got papers for Zena ( Zena is registered, but the former owner couldnt find the papers or something...). Wodan was a rescue from a pound- they dont know if he ever had papers or not...

Both of the litters ( Rusty's the older one-hes 5, Megan is 4-ish) were unexpected, and both occured a week before Zena was going to be spayed, and Wodan neutured. ( Wodan chewed through a 3 inch oak barn door to get to Zena the first time). ( the second time, they didnt know she was pregnant, they just thought she was getting fat, but then she started getting milk, so they got her checked and she was pregnant...lol)

We got them both free... so to us, it doesnt matter . We know they are purebreds and we spayed/neutured so we dont worry about it. Rusty is AKC registered in agility.

edited to add: Wodan and Zena are both search and rescue dogs.

Gidgets parents are Raballan Sasha and Cinderos Claim to Fame (Impressive pedigree I know...)

Another way to reseach pedigrees is to see if breeders have put together pedigree websites. In the case of poodles we have poodlepedigree.com. Its far from complete and still has its bugs, but its been great for purposes of pedigree reserach on my part. (for example, heres Bo's page poodlepedigree.com/pedigree.asp?ID=121511 As you can see you can view dogs in the pedigree, siblings, offspring, health testing etc... Its a great tool)
