However, these dogs are difficult to obtain, as they are from Italy. They are somewhat difficult to train, too and dont get along with other dogs. They have high flock gaurding instincts, too. A rural life is going to be extremely difficult, although it may be worth a try. Most of the dogs you'd find would be from working lines and just too intense for the average pet owner. These dogs think independently and they will decide when somethin is a treat and act on it.  This means that if the dog decided to attack or if someone got hurt just trying to get away from a large barking, growling dog, you'd be financially liable. &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If you're considering a Maremma because of the way they look, you'd be better off getting either a Kuvasz or Great Pyrenees from show lines. I live in a rural city. We have a huge yard and I would really enjoy one. It would live either in the house or outdoors with adequate stuff.
