I agree that adopting an older dog seems like it would be a better idea in your situation... I was 16 when I got my puppy and it took a *lot* of time, more than I anticipated, to train/socialize/exercise etc... I was home schooled at the time so I was home most of the day and it took every minute of that time! So unless you have somebody home more often willing to help you, an older dog would be my suggestion.. maybe a Lab? I don't know about most labs, I just know that *my* lab is content to sit on the couch or he is ready to go running a few miles whenever I am and he doesn't make any noise.. of course I am a little biased Good luck in your search!

Seeing you are out of the house so regularily, my suggestion would be to adopt an older dog rather than getting a puppy to make housetraining much easier. Unless of course, one of your parents stays at home and thus they might be able to help you out.

My personal thought is to look into retired racing greyhounds. Believe it or not they are fairly quiet dogs and like being coach potatos. They bond easily to their owners and have very sweet dispositions. In addition, because you will be getting one from a foster home it is likely that you will not have to worry about coming home every 4 hours for housetraining, and the dog will already have some basic obedience.

I would suggest a sheltie of course that is the only breed for me! they can be active if you want them to but the can also veg out on the couch with you. they are a small to medium size dog. the only problem is they can be barkers which wouldnt be good for your neighbors but they are easily trained so if you are consistant with training you should be fine.

i'm 15 years old, and i should be moving into a 3 bedroom apartment pretty soon and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions and what kind of breed would be best suited for someone like me.

- attends school full time/ but wants a part time job

- lives in the downtown area of major city

- is mildly active but is willing to step it up for a dog!

- is generally a shy person but WILL step up to the plate

- has a go-with-the-flow type of attitude

- is quite partial to larger breeds but can settle for smaller

- usually spends saturdays and sundays on the couch but is willing to get up and out when the opprotunity arrives

any sugesstions? i'm new to the dog world.. sort of.
