^^^ sounds like you have a great dog just curious why dont you have him train and compete in shutzhund??  I understand if you dont want to have your dog trained to bite, but my sons 4-h trainer/ advisor trains shutzhund, and he will often bring his GSD Liberty (Libby) who is trained in personal protection aka bite work and she is a sweetheart gets along with all the dogs and kids. she has never acted aggressive at all. I would love to get a GSD to train for shutzhund, but right now I dont have the time or money neede for that kind of training hopefully in the future!

Collie lover here! i have loved the Collie ever since watching the Lassie program every week as a kid. i finally got my "Lassie" when my common law hubby bought me a Collie puppy- who later turned out to actually be a Collie/border Collie mix. she was a dream to train! she was completely housebroken in two weeks (this after spending 6 weeks of her life completely outside). she learned to sit in two days. she learned leash training right away but we never really got the hang of "heel"- my fault, not hers. the only trouble i had with her was teaching the down. she could not figure out just what i wanted. so i enrolled her in obedience and as soon as she saw the others doggies downing she downed too. and that was that! no problems with it after that!

she was obsessed with tether ball and trying to catch rocks at the beach. she loved to chase kites, especially those that made noise. she loved chasing soccer balls, but got disappointed when she then popped them, something she did on a regular basis. she loved squeaky toys and honky toys and anything else that made a noise. she loved her teddy bear, which she ripped the stuffing out of and then it made a most excellent shake toy.

towards the end of her days she started herding, touching me on the back or the heel or nosing my ankle. she NEVER nipped and always took treats softly and delicately.

she was my chum, and i still miss her..........

So many Collies..... so little time........

I have two herding breeds. Erm, at least one herding breed and a possible herding breed mix that I call my Sheltie mix, but he's actually a Papillon/Sheltie?. My other dog is a German Shepherd.
The Sheltie mix is smarter than the GSD. He learned basic obedience within 5 days!

What dog breed are you? I'm a Labrador Retriever! Find out at Dogster.com

I have a Rottweiler, which can be a good herding dog, tho technically, is in the working group. I'm just fascinated with watching the herding breeds do their thing. Even those breeds, never trained, exhibit herding behaviors. I think they're great, but God love you guys who own them!!! Too high-energy for me !!!!

Love, love, love them!

Thanks, but I'll stick to Rottweilers and admire the herding breeds from afar. No offense, but there's too much hair for me. They're beautiful, though. BTW, I'm real partial to the blue merles.
