It is illegal in Miami-Dade County, Florida to house a "pit bull or pit bull mix". In my mind a "pit bull mix" is a mutt, not an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I unfortunately found this out after researching a breeder (who new nothing about any bans), picking out a little pup and sending my $500 nonrefundable deposit. I had to make the painful decision to not get the pup. I live four blocks from the border and travel to the Keys frequently which requires passing through the county. To make matters worse. State Representative, Perry Thurston is attempting to pass a Bill (HB 101) to allow each county to have the authority to decide which dogs are dangerous and ban them. (you track the Bill's status at , free to join) You know which breed would be the first to go and unfortunately the SBT would get lumped into that. It's out of hand. This happens when lonely (have nothing better to do) people complain that dogs make them afraid to walk the street. I'd rather walk down a street crowded with dogs rather than the people I encounter in Miami.
